Placing your greenhouse
Obviously the sunniest position is desirable. The direction North, South, East or West is debatable and we think the direction that suits you and your garden best is fine. After all it’s glazed all round. Light shade is not too disadvantageous and in some circumstances, depending on what you choose to grow, is preferable. The most important consideration in placement is where it is convenient. You are going to be going back-and-fore quite a lot so why not make it easy for yourself.
Should you have to place it near a boundary fence or hedge we can clad the sides or back with attractive boarding to cut out unsightly barriers or nosey neighbours, ask for advice please.

A good solid foundation should be laid in advance of your greenhouse delivery and we provide a base plan to assist you or your builder with the preparation of this. The following page gives a little more information on some of the popular methods used.
From the moment you get in touch we’re here to help you choose the right greenhouse
We know about greenhouses and we know the sizes that are top of your list. For the smaller garden the smallest width available is 6ft 8 inches (2026mm). The length is modular starting with two panels which is just 5ft 4 inches (1622mm) long. The most popular...

Suit yourself from an infinite choice of sizes and styles. Our greenhouses are all manufactured here in Cheshire from the finest and longest lasting materials presenting a sophisticated engineered finish. When it comes to style there’s the basic glass to ground model, the planthouse with a boarded base or a greenhouse mounted on a dwarf wall. You will find a choice of sizes in both our Avant Garde Modern Range or the Arts and Crafts Victorian Greenhouse.
Almost without exception every greenhouse has to have staging (benching to some) and shelving. You will need a strong surface for your plants, a place to store trays and a useful surface to pot up. Cultivar’s devishly clever staging provides the best.
Robust and inventive our staging, with powder coated frames, is sensibly located at a perfect working height (for wheelchair users this can be specified). The slatted surface is perfect for storing your plants, however if you would prefer a flat recessed surface, perhaps to fill with silver sand, that is no problem. If you desire we also have a rigid ABS recessed tray which fits neatly into the staging frame on the wide models which you will find handy as a potting bench, as a drench for watering, or as a damp bed filled with pea gravel.
The similarly designed shelving is 290mm wide and like the staging can stretch the entire length of your greenhouse. Located conveniently at head height it will offer a warmer location for tender plants or just a convenient storage place. The shelving can be provided with a basket for storing or drying. It too can be easily removed should your tomatoes achieve great heights.
All in all we offer a flexible greenhouse staging system that has been designed to meet all the needs of the modern gardener.
We know about greenhouses and we know the sizes that are top of your list. For the smaller garden the smallest width available is 6ft 8 inches (2026mm). The length is modular starting with two panels which is just 5ft 4 inches (1622mm) long. The most popular length for this width is 3 panels which is a little shy of 8 foot (2362mm).
The most popular size greenhouse we sell is exactly 8ft wide (2438mm) and is available in different lengths to suit your needs. A popular length for this is 4 panels which measures 10ft 5 inches (3187mm). This model is suitable for the average size garden.
The largest width model is rather grander at 10ft 7 (3218mm ). We have designed our range to enable you to increase the length in 750mm (2ft 6 inch) panels so our greenhouses stretch as far as your imagination or your neighbour’s fence.
Not only does the floor area of our greenhouses compare favourably to the competition but the overall height gives a high volume of air. Lots of head room and high eaves ensure your shoulders will not feel constricted and make for a comfortable environment. For instance our 8ft by 10ft greenhouse is almost 10ft high. Plenty of air is good for plants and people.

We have designed the ultimate greenhouse door. It’s made from sturdy aluminium framing inset into a dimensionally stable Accoya frame to ensure a long lasting and perfect fit. The shiplap board is designed to withstand hard wear and the occasional knock whilst adding both beauty and strength. The upper glazed section is toughened safety glass. It’s a combination of traditional wood working skills matched with a modern aluminium door system. The heavy duty hinges allow the door to fold back 180 degrees and the door can be held open, with a soft but strong device, for additional ventilation or to or help you when your hands are full. A low threshold will allow both wheelchair or wheelbarrow access. All our doors are wide and high such as those you would expect in your home.
We add a proper handle both inside and outside and modern secure eurolock to ensure your possessions and plants are safe and sound.
The very best growers know that adequate ventilation is the key to disease prevention and good results in the greenhouse. To this end we have studied the most effective positions and sizes of our vents to ensure optimum results. Starting from the bottom we have full length, hinged, aluminium vents at plinth level which will allow the cooler air to circulate upwards, around the structure before exiting as warm or hot air at the ridge. We can supplement the ventilation at eaves level with full length frameless glass vents for specialist growers such as those who appreciate alpines. Eaves level glazing is also standard to our dwarf wall models, thus we cover all of the options. The roof ventilation is also full length frameless glass of 6mm thickness for extra strength allowing exhausted air to escape. This page talks in more detail about how the ventilation works on a Cultivar greenhouse.
We have automated the low level and ridge glass vents, with high quality Bayliss heat sensitive cylinders and openers which will allow you to leave your greenhouse unattended in the knowledge that the vents will open in the warm weather. Please remember however that plants will still need some regular watering.
Greenhouse or Glasshouse, what’s in a name?
When it comes to encouraging plant growth and healthy propagation the clarity and durability of the glass is second to none. Gone are the days of delicate 2mm thick horticultural glass which shatters into shards at the slightest knock or wind. Now we use 4mm tempered safety glass. It takes a one in a million chance to break this glass and should this happen it crystallizes, not unlike a windscreen, into thousands of pieces. With our system any damaged glass is easily replaced. All our glass is thermally toughened to conform to EN 12150-1 requirements.
This has long been used in greenhouse construction usually with light weight sections that make for a rickety structure, often with clips or screws holding the glass in place.
With our long experience in the industry we have now banished the historical concepts and designed aluminum frames with tight mitred corners, strong glazing bars, secure beads and effective neoprene gaskets to hold the glass securely in place. We have selected long lasting polyester powder coating to enhance the frames in RAL7039 quartz grey which merges decidedly well with natural surroundings. Our fixings, which are mostly neatly hidden, are of the finest materials such as stainless steel and are chosen to last a lifetime.

For over 75 years the Accoya process has been used to preserve and stabilize this fast growing tree species ensuring a Class 1 Durability of 50 years. It’s virtually knot proof and indigestible to insects and termites. Here’s a little more information on the merits of Accoya.
