New Year – New Greenhouse

Written on: 19 January 2023 By Daniel Carruthers

For many the New Year brings with it plans for the year ahead. Gardeners in particular, start thinking about the seeds they’re going to grow, as well as plans for the garden. If you’re lucky enough to be considering a new greenhouse then perhaps this article will give you some inspiration and ideas.
universal fixings

It might come as no surprise to you that we here at Cultivar are obsessed about greenhouses. Whilst that might not make you the most interesting person to sit next to at a party the good news is that we are constantly coming up with good ideas to make your greenhouse life better. 2022 saw the introduction of the the Cucumber Ladder, an idea that came off the back of a conversation in the office here about floppy cucumber plants (don’t ask). It turns out that for years the humble cucumber plant hasn’t been getting the support it needs. So the wizards here in the technical department got to work. Making use of the subtle groove incorporated into the framework of a cultivar greenhouse, they devised a universal fixing that when staggered between the greenhouse framework can be used to provide support to even the weakest of cucumber plants, just add string. It didn’t stop there either, imagine if that same fixing could be used to support a bar to run the length of the greenhouse. The grow bar is perfect for stringing up tomatoes, or indeed any plant that needs support.

Another flash of wisdom and a modification here and there has enabled us to offer a 40mm rainwater diverter overcoming the age old problem of most rainwater diverters being only suitable for house downpipes. Not any more, if you have a cultivar greenhouse then you can collect as much as this precious commodity as the skies allow.

2022 also saw a couple of notable greenhouse installations.

First there’s the greenhouse in the garden of Terry Winters, if you’re on instagram there’s a good chance you’ll know Terry who has one of the most spectacular gardens in England. Further north, in Aberdeen, whilst a customer was hard at work laying a Granite base we produced a bespoke Victorian greenhouse with a porch. Proof, if needed, that we can occasionally rise to the challenge of producing a structure outside the realms of our standard modules. It was an interesting collaboration and as if often the case with our customers one that we thoroughly enjoyed.

So if 2023 is the year for you to get your new greenhouse then we’d love to be part of that. We’re here to guide you through the options, answer any concerns or questions you might have along the way, we’re here to help.
